The Summer of 2009 was Incredibly Memorable....
Not only was the fishing fantastic but the weather was unbelievable. It was the year of ice. Our guides said this was the latest spring since the 1960's. The ice didn't come off the north end of Black Lake until June 24th. Luckily it didn't really disrupt any of our guests fishing trips. Once the ice was gone we had a nice summer and a lengthy fall.
The late spring caused the Lake Trout to stay shallow into July and our guests caught plenty of them. The largest Lake Trout was caught in June by Bob Salamone at 41" (35lb). The second largest Lake Trout was caught during the spawn in September by Jeff Matity at 36".
The largest Northern Pike was caught by Matthew Frazier at 51" (35lb) on Riou Lake. A close second was caught on Black Lake by Kevin McVaney at 50". We also want to acknowledge the trophy Northern Pike leaders who both had fabulous fishing trips: Jeff Nickelson caught a total of 41 and Lynn Sommerfeld catching a total of 40. Even though their trips didn't overlap a friendly rivalry was in the air.
The Arctic Grayling and Walleye didn't disappoint either with plenty of trophies being caught and released throughout the season. We will continue to make Camp Grayling the destination for outstanding fishing adventures.
We would also like to take this moment to say thank you to everyone who joined us this season and made 2009 an incredibly memorable year for us. We met new friends and got to catch up with some old ones. It is an honor and a pleasure to be able to share our passion for the north with you, our friends and guests. We look forward to hosting you in the coming year and hope our friendship continues in the years to come.
From our home at Camp Grayling to yours, we wish you all success, happiness and great fishing in 2010!
